Union University’s Ashanti Day earned men’s basketball player of the week accolades from the Tennessee Sportswriters Association (TSWA) for the week ending January 4, 2015, posting a pair of double-doubles for the Bulldogs. This is Day’s first TSWA honor this season and second for Union (Pearson).
The Snellville, Ga., native recorded a career-best 29 points with 10 rebounds and two assists against Alabama-Huntsville. He made 9-of-18 shots from the field with three 3-pointers and also connected on 8-of-12 free throws. The sophomore guard added 13 points, 11 boards and five assists versus Valdosta State, with 10 of his 13 points coming at the foul line.
Day ranks third on the club with 13.7 points per game and leads the squad with 8.8 rebounds per outing. Union hosts Christian Brothers Thursday Gulf South Conference action. The Bulldogs are 12-4 on the season and tied for second in the GSC at 6-4.
